The director of Squint Your Eyes, the second film I saw in my personal list of Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival, sent a letter to his audience in Taipei, instead of presenting himself because he was too sick to come. According to his letter, which was read before the film was shown, he described the film an inspiration from his daughter who asked some questions after being told a story and those questions turn out to be worth of pursuing. Basically the film was made for his daughter, so there is no long and complicated dialogue and the phase of the film is calm and slow. It might appear to be a disappointment if you expected it in a wrong way or an adult's way, but if you had the curiosity of a ten-year-old child, you might find it's simplicity a rare treasure.
