"Tony Takitani's real name was...it really was Tony Takitani." And there is really a person named Tony Takitani, whose T-shirt inspired Haruki Murakami to write a fictional story about Tony Takitani, which then adapted by Jun Ichikawa into a 75-minute film, the first one I saw in my list of 2005 Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival. The director of the film added two scenes to the end of the original story: A party where Tony Takitani took umbrage at his late wife's former boy friend who spoke ill of her; And the final scene, in which Takitani made an unanswered call to a woman who can fit in perfectly to his late wife's mountain of clothes. These additional scenes give the film a more positive tone -- it seems to me that in the deep of his heart, Takitani doesn't want to be alone any more.
