Yankees 9, Tigers 3

I was one of the 55,071 fans watching Chien-Ming Wang taking the mound against Detroit Tigers at Yankees Stadium. Wang was not at his best but still picked up his 14th win of the season with the help from two young guns, Chamberlain and Ramirez.

I did not expect to see so many fans wearing jerseys that bear Wang's number. Most of them, I guess, must have come a long way from Taiwan, and I must have been unconsciously on the look out for them.

I also found three Japanese fans, one man and two women, wore kimonos to the game. I did not notice them until the man started to cheer loudly (for Matsui I suppose). They were a nice addition to the game because people wanted to take picture with them.

Another addition was Freddy "Sez", a long-time Yankee fan who held a lucky pan for the fans to bang. He even had his own infrequently published newsletter.

Baseball fanaticism is truly universal.
