When I was standing in the left field of a full-sized baseball field, the monocular cues of depth perception were clearly at work. I perceived that the outfield was so large that if a ball flew to outfield, I would have little chance to catch it. Likewise, when I was batting, I perceived that the infield was so large that I could not hit the ball out of it. None of these perceptions, however, prevented me from enjoying a baseball game with a bunch of Spanish-speaking baseball enthusiasts. I had no idea what they were saying, but I felt the connection with them through baseball. I later realized that this was in fact the most formal baseball game I had ever played. Good facility with good players--I couldn't ask more.
