Ciaotou Sugar Refinery
It was a beautiful day to take the KMRT for the first time. I started my journey from the Fongshan Station, made a transfer at the Formosa Boulevard Station and arrived at the Ciaotou Sugar Refinery Station. Built during the Japanese colonial period, Ciaotou Sugar Refinery was the first mechanical sugar refinery in Taiwan. It was the harbinger of the modernization of Taiwan's sugar industry, which consequently established a strong foundation of Taiwan's economy.

Walking inside the hundred years old factory, I imagined workers walking on the same floor that I was walking on; stepping on the same stairs that I was stepping on; and seeing the same four big Chinese letters reminding everyone to keep things clean and in order. Some of them had probably spent all their professional life in this factory. Maybe a few of them had lived long enough to see it closed down. Fortunately, the factory had become a museum that everyone could step inside and look around--a fine way to relieve nostalgia of their glorious past.
