Pittsburghers for Peace
We sensed something unusual was going to happen when we saw barricades stacked on the sidewalks. On our way back from playing squash for about two hours, we saw a large congregation of police officers staging at the Morewood parking lot (P8). That was a solid evidence of something was really going on. During lunch, we looked out from our window. We saw people holding signs heading down the street and people driving cars wearing identical purple t-shorts. We started to guess what was going on--it must be a demonstration. But for what? Living here without having a TV and without reading newspapers inevitably results in disconnection from local and worldly events. Therefore, it was a surprise for us to witness 1000 anti-war demonstrators marching past our apartment. We not only took photos but also waved our hands to show our support. However, we later learned that the group stopped in front of Carnegie Mellon University's Software Engineering Institute (SEI) to rebuke the organization for developing technology for the military. Thank goodness they didn't know our affiliation with SEI.
