The Alchemist by Paulo CoelhoOn the back cover of The Alchemist - 10th Anniversary Edition by Paulo Coelho, printed on the top is an acclaim from New York Times that says "[This] Brazilian wizard makes books disappears from stores." The acclaim faithfully resonates the book sales: more than 30 million copies sold worldwide, making it one of the best selling books in history. Published in 150 countries and 63 languages, the book has inspired millions of readers. After two decades, I finally become one of them. Linda, who introduced me to this book, shows her inspiration by naming her blog My Personal Legend.

The following is quoted from the new introduction from the author:
I ask myself: are defeats necessary?

Well, necessary or not, they happen. When someone first begins fighting for their dream, they have no experience and make many mistakes. The secret of life, though, is to fall seven times and to get up eight times.

So, why is it so important to live one's Personal Legend if we are only going to suffer more than other people?

Because, once we have overcome the defeats - and we always do - we are filled by a greater sense of euphoria and confidence.
Paulo Coelho
