Pure (2009)

The second film in my selection of 2012 Taipei Film Festival is a powerful one. Pure by Lisa Langseth, the director's debut film, is about the struggle of a young lady, Katarina, who is infatuated by classical music, and decides to abandon her old self in a pursuit of a new one. As encouraged by a conductor who quoted Kierkegaard "Courage is life's only measure", Katarina boldly goes beyond what everyone is expected of her.

Actress Alicia Vikander's debut performance accompanied by Mozart and Beethoven's classical musics truly make this film an unforgettable one. Highly recommended!
