Monsieur Lazhar (2011)

Monsieur Lazhar (2011)
Nominated for the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film at the 84th Academy Awards, Monsieur Lazhar is not an ordinary story in school classroom.

Bashir Lazhar, whose name means "bearer of good news" and "lucky", is hired to replace a beloved teacher who committed suicide in classroom. Mr. Lazhar's challenge is not only from teaching the traumatized students, but also from coping with his own painful past and cultural gap as an Algerian immigrant. All the challenges seem even more insurmountable knowing that our protagonist was just a restaurant owner back in Algeria. However, with surprising passion and tenderness, Mr. Lazhar finds his way and at the same time, helps his students find their ways to move forward.
