The Australian Open 2006 unearthed a new star, the twenty-year-old Cypriot, Marcos Baghdatis, who was ranked No. 54 in the world when entering the tournament but defeated three top-ten players on his way to the final match with world No. 1, Roger Federer. Although he fell short to claim his first Grand-Slam title, there was no doubt he possessed the necessary skills to do so. More importantly, his charisma had created a rarely seen "Bagh-mania" in professional tennis. I would say more great things can be expected to happen on him in the future.
