My folding bike got a story to tell. It is not about the second ride we had together, although the beautiful sunset and the scary ride in the dusk without headlights would provide the basic elements for another story.
The story started long before my folding bike was manufactured. The time was early 1990s, or 1992 to be exact. Dahon, a company specialized in producing folding bikes, sent a group of employees to U.K. to negotiate a licensing deal with Bromption Bicycle. A deal was reached, but it was not between Dahon and Bromption. The group of employees set up a new company, which became the licensee and with Bromption, formed a joint venture called Neobike. Naturely, Dahon sued Neobike. The case spent 10 years going through Taiwan's legal system. In 2002, the superior court found the five Neobike founders guilty and sentenced them to jail for five months.
Neobike the company no longer exists, but my folding bike, bearing the brand, is a living evidence to tell the story.
